Tips on quilting and binding
Welcome to WEEK 6 and the final week of our Dragon Dreams quilt-along!
If you've been following the QAL schedule, you already completed your quilt top. This week, let's turn it into a finished quilt, so it's ready for snuggling!
Please watch my video below for this week's tips. I am covering the following topics:
- How I mark and baste my quilt
- How I bind my quilt
Some additional tips for WEEK 6
There are so many different ways of how you can quilt your quilt. Without going into the specifics of each of them, please let me share some ideas on how you can add some fun quilted details to your quilt, fully embracing the dragon theme.
- Adding scales
Whether you're hand quilting, using free motion quilting or an edge-to-edge pantograph, I think it would be so much fund to add some scales to your dragon quilt. There are many shapes that can work for this: simple scallops, more complex Baptist fans or really any designs that are made up of scale-like shapes. The sample below is featuring "Geisha" by Urban Elementz (find it here), turned upside-down.

- Adding fire or smoke
Maybe your little dragon is breathing some fire or smoke in his sleep? A similar idea would be to incorporate some flames into your quilting. This could be an all-over quilting design or just a detail within the white space above the dragon's snout.
- Adding other details
Or what about a starry night sky or some quirky mushrooms or sweet butterflies? You don't necessarily need to add any pieced blocks to add more whimsical details! A fun quilting design can achieve the same to tell the full story of your quilt! I can't wait to see what you come up with! 🥰

I enjoyed the quilt video sessions. So nice to replay and look again when an issue. My first was using plain fabric without a print. I am planning the next one to have more fabric detail. Thank you.
Thank you Astrid. I loved all your videos. I really appreciate how you say “it depends on my mood” because that’s the kind of quilter I am too. Every project is unique and reflects my mood at the time!
